How it works
A pod is three to eight people — engineers, usually a QA engineer, and a delivery lead who is accountable for the output. You give the pod outcomes and priorities; the lead runs the work, the standups, the estimates and the quality bar, and reports to you weekly.
This is the shape most clients end up in, for two reasons. It takes the management load off your side, so one of your staff is not spending a day a week coordinating offshore engineers. And it is priced as capacity rather than hours, which is both easier to budget and — in the UK, Europe and Australia — the structure that keeps the engagement clearly a service rather than a supply of labour.
The pod can be dedicated to one product indefinitely, or stood up for a programme and stood down after. Either way you keep the code, the pipeline and the documentation.
Choosing the right model
When another model fits better
A pod is poor value below about three people — at one or two engineers you are paying for a lead you do not need, and plain staff augmentation is cheaper. It is also wrong if you want to direct each person's day individually; that is augmentation, and asking for it inside a pod wastes the lead.
Every engagement model here is priced on the rates page, so you can compare the options rather than take our word for which one fits.

All-inclusive and indicative, shown so you can compare us against a local hire. Monthly figures assume 160 hours a month and the same for the day-rate markets, so the two always reconcile. Engagements are contracted as a monthly capacity fee or a fixed-scope deliverable, with our own delivery lead accountable for the outcome — see engagement models. There is no setup fee, no recruitment fee and no management surcharge.
Questions
Dedicated development team
- How is a pod priced?
- One monthly figure for the whole team, quoted from the roles in it and fixed for the quarter. No hourly billing, no overtime line, no change requests for a day of extra work.
- Can we change the pod's shape?
- At each quarter, or sooner with 30 days' notice. Teams change composition as a project moves from build to hardening and we price that rather than resist it.
- Why does the pricing unit matter legally?
- In the UK, the EU and Australia, pricing that tracks headcount and hours looks like supplying labour, which brings employment and tax consequences for the buyer. A capacity or outcome fee with our own lead in charge is a service. We contract that way by default — see engagement models.
