What this engineer does
Data engineering goes wrong quietly. A pipeline that fails loudly gets fixed; one that drops five per cent of rows produces confident reporting on wrong numbers for a quarter. We screen on testing, idempotency, late-arriving data and backfill strategy.
This is also the discipline where the group's DevOps side matters: most data estates are an infrastructure problem wearing a SQL hat.
Briefs we see most often
- A warehouse that nobody trusts the numbers in
- Pipelines to build or stabilise in Airflow, Dagster or dbt
- Streaming ingestion with real ordering requirements
- Cost control on a warehouse bill that has grown without explanation

All-inclusive and indicative, shown so you can compare us against a local hire. Monthly figures assume 160 hours a month and the same for the day-rate markets, so the two always reconcile. Engagements are contracted as a monthly capacity fee or a fixed-scope deliverable, with our own delivery lead accountable for the outcome — see engagement models. There is no setup fee, no recruitment fee and no management surcharge.
Questions
Hiring data engineers
- How much does it cost to hire data engineers in India?
- $38–52/hour all-inclusive through Skydream Digital, which is $6,080–8,320/month for a full-time engineer at 160 hours a month. That covers salary, employer costs, equipment, security tooling and management — there is no setup fee, recruitment fee or management surcharge on top. UK buyers pay £300–450/day, Australian buyers A$52–70/hour and UAE buyers AED 185–250/hour.
- Data engineer or analytics engineer?
- If the work is dbt models and metric definitions on an existing warehouse, an analytics engineer is cheaper and closer to the business. If it is ingestion, orchestration and infrastructure, you need a data engineer.
- Can you work without access to production data?
- Yes, and often that is the right arrangement: synthetic or masked data in development, with access to production restricted to named people under your approval.
